The Amber Temple is a duo: singer/songwriter Julian Temple and Amber Gabrielle Stephens. Julian sings powerful and evocative stories that Amber articulates through contemporary dance and theatrics creating a visceral atmosphere with the original music.

The original music (guitar, vocals, looping, occasional violin- Amber plays in moments between dance) with contemporary dance that draws from butoh, mime and  theatre. The stories are poems, bards, and prose that span the political to the ecological. To the timeless meanderings of love, loss, adventure and the dark twisted eddies one finds oneself in between the immense chapters of our lives. The atmosphere is thick and potent with the shifting of characters that are sung then articulated into movement. The two performers are channeling the same story, the dance making the words more kinetic, the song sending vibrational echoes through the body.

 

Fresh back from a New Zealand national tour of a show comprised of vignettes of varying characters and topics, The Amber Temple is now working on a feature length themed production that looks at our current geopolitical climate, the pupperty and drama occurring on the world stage of politics.
