LUMA, Queenstown's Light Festival, brought me on as Choreographic Director to curate an added element of performance to its array of light and sound installations. This year we decided on the theme of "Ghosts Of The Past" and featured a performance "In The Shadows", bringing the forest to life with characters of our heritage as well as evoking the spirit of our fauna and flora. 

 

The Amber Stephens Dance Collective worked directly with The Remarkable Theatre Company to create a haunting "flock" of Victorian Ghosts form our early settler days. Our dancers then emerged from the Shadows to emulate various animal and bird life calling to our attention the beat and power of the forest's intrinsic life force and activity. The Forest floor dance then shifted to Chloe Loftus and her arborealist tree dancers mounted in the lit trees. 

 

Other works in the Queenstown gardens were young contemporary dancers I worked with, performing in the Fairy Wonderland zone. Also featuring dance and choreography from The Wakatipu Conservatoire of Classical Ballet and her baby ballerinas and Plant dance company form Auckland who collaborated with Nocturnal Light and Sound producers. 

 

The festival ran over 4 nights from May 31- June 3rd 2019.
