AMBER GABRIELLE STEPHENS
PAINTINGS
Amber’s abstract paintings combine original geometric designs, largely based on golden ratio 1:618 (phi), and free fluid lines. The artworks can be related to a choreographic structure where the geometry mirrors rhythmic structures and spatial pathways, while the fluid lines mirror free expressive contemporary movement or the narrative.
Amber Studied Abstraction Painting under professor Edwin Bohatch at the Academy Of Fine Arts in Vienna, Austria. There Amber explored both classical painting techniques as well as concepts around abstraction. Also dancing and choreographing professionally at this point, Amber explored combining painting and dance, in particular, live painting with performance. Many of Amber’s abstract themes deal with metaphysical concepts, self-awareness, sound-waves, and relationship to environment.

Amber began founded 'Depiction portraiture' in her early 20's. Since that time Amber further developed her technical understanding by learning the 'old master' techniques whilst studying at The Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and has continued to paint commissions from time to time. Her series of 12 NZ Paralympians for the Rio 2016 games was opened by prime minister John Key and toured 80 cities and towns across Aotearoa.
